LETTERS TO GALATEA
The letters to Galatea cover the period from 1920 to 1924. Kazantzakis writes to Galatea, in Athens, from Austria (Vienna), Germany (mainly from Berlin) and Italy (mainly from Naples). The letters reveal his literary, philosophical and political preoccupations. Profound observations alternate with detailed instructions on the settlement of financial matters and references to the author's family and friends.
Kazantzakis appears disappointed with the political and intellectual climate in Athens as conveyed to him by Galatea. What follows is a selection of excerpts indicative of his relationship with Greece, his left-wing political orientation during this period and his existential concerns.Α.Κ.
